The Norman thatched cottage, or how to preserve the authenticity of Normandy

Discover our enchanting traditional thatched cottages…

As a true storybook image of Normandy, the thatched cottage is the traditional Norman home covered in straw. It testifies to the regional know-how maintained by artisans attached to transmitting their techniques through quality craftsmanship.

Its typical architecture uses local resources: the framework and timbered façades come from neighbouring forests, reeds from the Seine Valley cover the roofs while the foundations and plinths are in flint or limestone blocks from the neighbouring ground. The wattle and daub is made from silt. Irises grow through the roof ridges.
